Since 2013, Lengai Safari Lodge has welcomed travellers to a shaded, green domain at the foot of Ol Doinyo Lengai — the active volcano the Maasai call the Mountain of God. We sit in the authentic Maasai region of Tanzania's Great Rift Valley, beside Engare Sero village and close to Lake Natron.

The Maasai way
The lodge sits in the heart of Maasai land, and our guides and neighbours in Engare Sero are Maasai. You will know them by the shuka, the bright checked cloth wrapped around the body and knotted over the shoulder, usually in red, sometimes in blue.
And by the beadwork: wide flat collars, earrings, headbands and bracelets, made by the women bead by bead. Each colour is said to carry its own meaning.

Evenings by the fire
When the sun drops behind the Rift escarpment, the sky over Engare Sero fills with stars. Sit by the fire with our Maasai guides and hear stories of the land, the herds and the Mountain of God.
Jump with the Maasai
In the adumu, the jumping dance, young Maasai men take turns leaping straight up as high as they can while the others sing. Hold the button to build up power, then let go at the right moment.
